At 18, Robert Steiner won his first art competition, which landed him a National Scholastic magazine scholarship to the Rhode Island School of Design. He graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree in 1971 and moved to San Francisco, where he earned a master’s degree in fine art and print making from San Francisco State University. After winning the 1981 California State Duck Stamp competition, Steiner went on to establish himself as one of wildlife art’s most successful painters, racking up numerous state duck stamp contest victories and commissions. His works have been displayed at major art shows and exhibitions throughout the country. Steiner’s painting of a Barrow’s goldeneye appeared on the 1998-1999 Federal Duck Stamp.
