Si youn Kim came from Pusan, Korea, and lived in Vietnam until her family moved to New Jersey when she was a teenager. She has always enjoyed drawing and painting but had studied art professionally for only two years before winning the National Junior Duck Stamp Contest. Acrylic and charcoals are her favorite drawing media. When she saw pictures of the king eider it inspired her to research the sea duck. Her father, who owns an architecture company inspires her. Si youn plans to go to art school and become an architect.
